Why do coffee grounds make good fertilizer?

what if I’m doing a science fair project and my cup doesn’t have any worms.

Should I use coffee grounds as a varible?

or should I just use fish food as a varible? How does fish food make a good fertilizer?

Coffee grounds are a low-level source of nitrogen, having a fertilizer value of around 2.0-0.3-0.2, as well as a minor source of calcium and magnesium. Post-brewed coffee grounds are reported to be slightly to highly acidic, depending on the source, but no more so than peat moss. So, one could apply them to the soil for acid-loving plants, such as rhododendrons, azaleas and blueberries, etc. Or, you could spread them out over a larger garden area to minimize the pH effect. It’s difficult to make a specific recommendation for an application rate, but it’s always better to err on the lighter side, since the pH can be variable. A rate of 10 pounds (dry weight) per 1000 square feet would be conservative.
TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, MORE SPECIFICALLY:
Composting is also an excellent method to recycle the grounds, which have a carbon-to-nitrogen ratio of around 20:1. Use the grounds as you would green, leafy material, mixing with some dry, brown plant materials in the compost. The Environmental Protection Agency suggests adding no more than 25 percent volume coffee grounds. WORM COMPOSTERS report that coffee grounds are an excellent food source for the little critters. Again, be sure to MIX THE GROUNDS with brown materials (like soggy leaves), even in the worm bin.

So? Science Fair? Variables? Review of Literature?

Mmmk.
So my project is:
Which percent of worm castings versus store brought soil will make bean plants grow faster?
And I add more worm castings as I go.
Ex. 100% soil 0% worm castings, 25% worm castings 75% soil, 50% worm castings 50% soil, etc.
I know what my independent variable is; it’s what I change so it would have to be the WORM CASTINGS.
But what is my dependent variable?

And what the hell is a Review of Literature?
And how do I write it?

HELP ME PLEASE!!!
Thanksss.
(:

A literature review is a listing of all experiments that bear on yours. They may have used coir on bean plants as the variable or they might have tried maize instead of beans in worm castings. You need to look up papers on this type of experiment.

Your dependent is what responds to the changes you make. An experiment asks a question. The dependents answer it.

Fishing Worms
Can the worms I sh1t out be used for fishing?

They’re not tapeworms, so not worries there.

I think they might be roundworms. If so, can they be used for fishing, or will the eggs in them contaminate the fish?
I tried dipping my a55 in the water. You know what getting bit by 5 snapping turtles feels like???

DO YOU???

Cool. I want to go fishing with you next time, can I video tape this? I need a tripod to keep the camera still though because I’ll be laughing to damned hard to hold it still. Before you use your worms, use one of those air puffers to blow out the eggs first, so you won’t contaminate the fish your catching. Oky doky?

Underwater sponges and worms may hold key to cure for malaria
Healing powers for one of the world’s deadliest diseases may lie within sponges, sea worms and other underwater creatures. A scientist is analyzing more than 2,500 samples from marine organisms collected off deep sea near Florida’s coast. Some of them could hold the key to developing drugs to fight malaria, a mosquito-borne illness that kills more than 1 million people worldwide annually.

First timer growing vegetables?

I recently bought some seeds as I have decided Id like to try and grow my own vegetables.

The type of soil I have looks a mix between peaty and clay I have a few questions though I was wondering if someone can help me with.

Whats the best thing to do with the soil? Should I buy some compost and some sort of feed and mix it in with the soil or just mix some compost into it?

Is it best to buy one of those small green houses and plant into seed trays before putting in the ground? The seed packets say that they can be planted either in or outdoors at this time of year, I live in the South and think all the frosts are gone.

Any special care I should give them whilst they are growing ie when to water, feed etc?

How long can they stay in the ground before they start to turn bad?

The seeds I have are Sping Onions, Cabbage, Watercress, Broccoli, Courgett, Rocket, Mizuna and Kale
Also how do you control pests?

Hi there!

Those are some really general questions, and any answer would be very long. I’ll stick to basics and suggest you looks at the links below.

You should mix some good compost into the soil, since it sounds like you are a little low on organic matter. As the compost breaks down, it will provide nutrients for the garden. If you think your soil is particularly poor, you might add some slow release fertilizer pellets.

Seeds can be started indoors or in the bed. It is often easier to protect the seedlings from pests if you start them inside, and plant them outside after they have developed more leaves. But all those little seedling pots can take up lots of space indoors, so planting in the beds can be more efficient.

Watering and fertilizing depends on your local climate, soil and the plants. I suggest you check with a local gardening club or your Master Gardeners for local tips. Since you are in the South where high temps and humidity can be intense, you might try early morning and evening watering once the weather gets hot.

Turn bad? I don’t understand the questions. You should rotate your bed every few years because certain plants needs certain nutrients and can deplete the soil. Is that what you mean?
