how to use Turf Builder and Lawn Fertilizer?

I just bought a first single house and the lawn is drying out. Previous seller left us with Scott Fertilizer and Turf Builder. How should I use either one of those to help reviving the lawn?? I tried to read the back of those product but still doesn’t find clear direction.

Scott’s Turf Builder makes your grass green while it also strengthens the roots from below. It does not kill weeds in your lawn.
1st – If you have weeds in your lawn, use Scott’s Bonus S. You can also use the Turf Builder and mix the 2 together. If you do not have weeds and you just want to get your grass back in shape. Here’s the solution:
When your grass is dry, depending on how big your yard is, you can use a spreader or not. Start by walking the spreader in one direction from east to west and then going north to south or vice verse. Just as long as you cover the whole area. Your are trying to get an even coverage on your lawn. Once this is done, then water it in for 30 minutes. You will notice a difference in 2 weeks. After the 6 weeks, re-apply. What this does: It makes the grass greener and healthier, roots stronger. After applying the 2nd time, if you still want to keep the grass green and healthy, you can also use Milorganite which is 1/3 off the cost and does the same thing. There is a number on the back of these bags by law, you can call them up, the first question they will ask is for your zip code and then you explain what you are trying to accomplish. Good Luck and Have a New Healthy Lawn!

I Need A Tall Hedge Does pruning privet slow growth?

Hello, I’m trying to grow tall privet hedges in my backyard so i can have some privacy. I have planted about 20 privet which are 2 ft high and a foot in a half apart and need them to grow as tall as possible at least 15 ft. I have been watering regularly and adding some superthrive twice a month. So far they are responding great. I have read about trimming twice a year for hedges but my concern is that they will not grow to their desired height if i prune until they are where i need them. Is it safer for me to just let them grow on their own to the desired height and then prune for hedge or will prunning not affect the growth and especially height. also if there is any other product with are recommended for great growth i would like to check them out. Thank you

If your privet is only 2 ft high you have a few years to go before they reach 15 ft. I have had great experience using soil inoculants to grow privet. Try something called Terra Foods. It is a microbial mix that promotes natural fixation of nitrogen for more leaf and stem growth. You mix it with water and then water the roots with it. Also get your hands on some Mycchorizae Fungi. This actually attaches itself to the roots and makes more roots for the plant, thus bringing more water and nutrients up into the plant. Whatever you do, do not use traditional fertilizers as they all have excessive sodium (salts) that will actually stunt privet.

What should I do to my lawn in the spring?

I’ve been in my home for almost four years now. I’ve never treated the grass, done fertilizer, areated, etc. I just mow, rake and leave it alone.

Any suggestions on things I could do to have a nice lawn? I don’t want golf-course perfect, but I would like to know what to put down, how to bring grass back to a hilly area, etc.

You need to areated every Spring.
You need to put fertilizer on it every year twice .
You need to put weed control on it.

Thats what we do with our lawn. And than naturally do not forget to water it. Good luck!

how do I set prices for my own lawncare service?

I have just started a lawncare service and I don’t want to over charge or under charge my clients.

You’ll need to do some market research for your area. Contact all of the other lawncare service companies in your market (city, county or whatever is appropriate) and get a list of prices for services which you are planning to offer. (Check the Yellow Pages for contact numbers).

You can say that you are “shopping around for prices”, which isn’t EXACTLY untrue. Then you’ll know what customers are expecting to pay and can base your prices accordingly.

You may want to check services and prices online as well. I’d do a Google search for your location and “lawncare” to find more businesses in a wider market.
