Sons of Guns is for me!

I appreciate the guest post, Julie Lindsey

Hey guys, it’s Steve again. My favorite educational TV show has quickly come to be “Sons of Guns” on the Discovery Channel. I watch the show on my satellite tv that also has directstartv.com. I like this show because I get to know more about Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, sharp shooters, gun collection owners, and former war heroes who have retired to unhappy lives. A recent episode I watched was about the flamethrower. This man who had served in WWII had an old flamethrower that he used to kill people with, specifically Nazis. The team from Sons of Guns set about to fix the flamethrower so that Will could get back to his toasty ways. The main hangup that Will had was that he had some old childhood fears of burning people to death that he ended up realizing in WWII, giving him severe emotional trauma. I really felt for Will because when I was a kid I used to burn grasshoppers with magnifying glasses. When I was a young adult I accidentally burned my family’s house down. Don’t worry, no one was hurt! Still, I could understand how Will would have some serious reservations about getting his old flamethrower back to working condition. The Sons of Guns guys were very kind to Will and helped talk him through his reservations. This show was great and you should watch it.

Green Lucky
Would finding a baby green tree frog in your home be considered lucky?

We live nowhere near water or rainforest. Also what is the meaning of green tree frogs symbolically, thanx in advance :)

Absolutely! The Frog Totem indicates metamorphoses and new directions in life. Frogs are often symbolized with a gold coin in their mouths signifying good luck and the energy of increased wealth. Shamans felt that Frogs could make the quick and effortless leap from one stage of consciousness to another, thus they were a symbol of magic to them. How cool is that?

Is green green Plant fertilizer a good source for plants?

I have recently bought a box containing 10 small 32ml. bottles of green green plant fertilizer. it is made up of mostly nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potassium. it has a .005% total nitrogen, .003% Ammoniacal Nitrogen, .002% NItrate Nitrogen, .01% Availbable Phosphate, and .02%soluble Potash. my question is this; is this a good fertilizer or should i try something else? i am new at growing plants. any awnser would be much apprectiated!

This is a good plant fertilizer. Be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle exactly, you could kill your plants by over fertilizing them.

What are some good breeds of chicken for me to get?

My husband and I currently live in an apartment, but plan to move to a house with a decent amount of property, once I graduate and find a job. We will likely live in a temperate climate, so cold hardy is not a must. We want chickens who can provide eggs, fertilizer, and pest control for a garden. We also want chickens that are friendly and make decent pets. If we get them when they are chicks, we might not know if they are male or female, so knowing that roosters of a particular breed are friendly, is important. We also are not interested in breeds that look too crazy or ridiculous (see picture for example http://www.mypetchicken.com/images/chickenPix/large/Studio_WSilkie_649_L.jpg). We like barred rocks and Road Island reds, but we don’t know anything about other breeds, and I don’t know if barred rock roosters are friendly or not. We plan on having children and would like the chickens to also be pets for them to enjoy.

Buff Orpingtons or Pekin Bantams. Buff Orpingtons are a large and generally friendly type of chicken that will get along with you fantastically well if you raise them from chicks or point of lay. There are many different colours of orpington and the best clours to have are Buff, Black, Blue or White because they have not been mixed much with other breeds of chickens, this is better for their personality. Here is some pictures of them

White: http://www.pagespoultry.co.uk/images/chickens/white_orpington_hen1.jpg

Pekin Bantams are also good pets, they have the personality of the Orpingtons but they are much, much smaller!

Here is a picture of them,

Goji Juice Online

Imagine a life where you can be completely healthy, stress free, live long and stay young. Sounds like heaven? It does but the good news is that you can find all that right here on earth. It’s true. The Goji berry is a tiny red fruit that has changed the lives of many people around the world. People who consume this nutrient dense fruit daily have a life expectancy of over a hundred years. Dr. Earl Mindell started Himalayan Goji juice a product of Free Life. He was the first to create a standardized and marketable form of this juice. Goji juice is made from Goji berries found in the Himalayas, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Xinjiang.

If you travel back with us to 800 AD you will find the first documented history of Goji berries. It has been said that there was once a well, which was dug near a Buddist temple. Berries from the Goji vines which covered the well, fell into it. The people, who drank water from the well, seemed to have excellent teeth and had hardly aged! Thus the Himalayans spread the good news about the Goji fruit to China, Tibet and India. ‘Lycium barbarum’ as is it called has helped in enhancing the immune system, fighting fatigue and ageing and has also helped people in their weight loss programs.

Normally people drink about one ounce of Goji juice to begin with. It has an excellent taste and you can drink as much as you like. There are no side effects. Having about four ounces a day ensures optimum health for an individual. The good thing about Goji juice is that you can share it with the whole family. It is absolutely safe for children. After drinking the juice, the effects can be noticed in a month’s time but for some it may differ according to their nutritional needs and body makeup.

Goji juice is completely natural and thus it is drunk without sugar and artificial sweeteners. It has four unique polysaccharides, which are vital for the body to protect itself from disease, age and fatigue. Free Life, the company that produces Himalayan Goji juice follows a seven-step quality process to ensure consistency in the product. So you can be assured that every liter of Goji juice is pure and authentic. The brand does use certain safe freshness preservatives to keep the juice from spoiling. Some other fresh fruit juices may be added to give it the extra flavor. Once you open a bottle of Goji juice, it is best that you drink it before thirty days. After opening the bottle, store it in a refrigerator till you drink it again.

Due to its anti-ageing properties, it is gaining much popularity around the world. It is sought after by celebrities who want to stay young for as long as they can. Since it provides extra energy anyone can drink it to stay on his or her feet longer or to handle a normal working day.

Pasture Management?

Howdy, We have 5 acres in No Cal that we just purchased. The previous owners did not take care of the pasture. They are a mix of weeds (no star thistle though), and natural grasses and wildflowers. I would like to keep it as natural as possible but just improve it. We bought a heavy duty harrow and I have started to drag the pastures. It is cleaning up the weeds and breaking up the areas with piles of old poop. We plan on getting a good manure spreader so we can spread the composted manure with some grass seed and fertilizer. What else? What is a good grass mix and where do I buy it? THANKS!!!

If you are going to have horses graze the pasture, I would break it up into 3 parts. One part, the smallest would be your sacrifice area. This would be where you would feed hay , water and have your barn or shelter. The other 2 areas would be your grazing area. You would rotate the horses back and forth between the 2 pastures. This will prevent your horses from over grazing. If both have been grazed down, you would keep them in the sacrifice pasture, and feed hay, until the grazing pastures recover. It would also be a good idea to mow the the pasture to a height of about 4 inches once you have moved the horses out.
I seed with brome grass seed, but there is also a pasture mix that has clover, alfalfa, timothy and other grasses in it. You should be able to find these at Tractor Supply or any other farm store.

Where to buy 55 Gallon Plastic Barrels in Rochester NY?

Trying to build a compost barrel that spins but can’t find a barrel. Thanks

Try Craig’s List. I suggest the “farm & garden” section. I see them all the time in my area.

http://rochester.craigslist.org/grd/

BTW, I’ve done this before and it works well. You can build a frame from scrap lumber that will keep the barrel above the ground at a level where you can park your wheelbarrow or cart under the door. Use a 6 or 8 old furniture casters to support the barrel, so you can turn it. If you use enough casters, they will hold the weight. If you want to spend money on good casters, you can get away with 4 of them, but if you spread the weight out over more casters you can use cheapos.
