Why are nitrogen, phosphorous, sulfur and iron included in lawn fertiliser?

I’m almost afraid to answer. Nitrogen, phosphorous, and potash are the three main elements in lawn fertilizer. Sulfur, iron, boron, sodium, etc. are called trace minerals and are included in the blend in much smaller amounts. Plants use them with to convert to plant tissue. Yes, much the same way we convert vitamins and minerals in our body’s. Each of these minerals have a purpose in feeding plants. Some contribute to strong stem and leaf growth, others to flowers and fruits, and still others help make the overall plant healthy.
